Review of Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) by Lee S — 01 Feb 2008

Francis Ford Coppola may have only a few movies under his belt compared to his counterparts, but this film ensures that his strike rate is one to admired. He so effectively does everything this screenplay calls for, and more. There is a heart to 'Peggy Sue Got Married' that is rare in a film genre full of such lightheartedness. The most effective element to this film is that in each scene that other filmmakers would fill with a mystical sense and some exaggerations, Coppola keeps it real. SO many times in this film, I felt that I would react in a similar way. Nicolas Cage has great comic timing in 'Peggy Sue Got Married'. Besides Adaptation, it is his funniest role to date from what I've seen. Kathleen Turner is pretty amazing in a performance that is definitely one of her best and up there with 'Body Heat'.

A great film with a sense of wonder and heart, without excluding the reality of situations.
