Review of Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) by Frédéric I — 14 Jul 2010
Though directed by Francis Ford Coppola, this movie lacks material for him to work with which ends up making this film a mediocre attempt at a time travel movie and a romance comedy.
This movie does have a star cast of Kathleen Turner, Nicolas Cage, Joan Allen and Jim Carry. But as far as story goes, this movie just didn't hit the wit comedy or the story right. A woman faints at her 25th high school anniversary and winds up back at high school in 1960. This movie had as much of a chance as Back to the Future, which in the end it tried to be, but just can't hold a candle up to it.
Frances Ford does try so hard give his special director's charm with certain scenes with great cinematography, but this movie lacked in other aspects, it was just noticable that Frances Ford wanted to make this movie look good over the lack.
Everyone in this movie does try hard to work with what they have, and there are some funny Jim Carry moments, but the story and writing to this movie was too light, not enough comedy, and just not that satisfying after it is done.
