Review of Peeples (2013) by Will S — 02 Sep 2013
The best word I can use to describe this film is cute, at best. It's very predictable, as any movie about someone from a snobbish family who is dating someone that is less than desirable to their family.
There isn't anything particularly moving about the film. But, anyone who has ever dated someone that did not meet the approval of their family will very much relate to the plot. Usually an indication of a movie's entertainment value is directly related to how much it brings in at the box office.
It raked in $9.1 million. It's certainly not horrible, but it's also not a blockbuster either. It's just an average, run-of-the-mill, dime a dozen, predictable family film, in my opinion. One of the refreshing aspects of the film was the character portrayed by Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris).
He presents a level of normalcy and authenticity that makes the film palatable. I would like to have seen his character do a little more, however. It hits the DVD on September 10th. Check it out for yourself and form your own opinion.
