Review of Peeping Tom (1960) by Lynne N — 14 Jan 2008
This film made me wish I was still a at university - writing essays on film and psychoanalysis - as there's plenty here for a film student to sink their teeth into. I wouldn't say I enjoyed this movie - but it certainly made for interesting viewing.
Peeping Tom is expertly made and, unlike many of the pretentious art-house movies of the sixties, it feels chillingly real - the dialogue and characters are all considered and well-written. Karlheinz Bohm's portrayal of Mark is fantastic - he draws out your sympathy even as he tortures and kills his victims.
