Review of Peeping Tom (1960) by Paul K — 27 Jun 2009
The opening POV shot is the forerunner of all the "in the killer's shoes" first-person perspective camera work that has been used--and often abused for fifty years, now. A very interesting yarn where you know exactly who the crazed killer is.
..just not *how* crazed. That said, Karlheinz Bohm still gives an extremely sympathetic performance as the lead, Mark Lewis. Unfortunate this sympathetic portrayal probably played no small part in fueling the oue over the film upon its initial release, outrage which, effectively, cost director Michael Powell his career.
