Review of Peeping Tom (1960) by Shane S — 03 Sep 2011
Man, I really dig Carl Boehm's accent in this. Yeah, it does go into "me accent slipping" territory like a friggin' torpedo, but at least it gives you something to laugh at so you won't realize you're becoming as much as a voyeur as ol' Mark over here.
Really effective thriller. Goes into the nitty-gritty when it talks about violence, peeping toms, curiosity, and what drives us to fear: the fear of death itself. Acting's good for '60s standards, directing is really neat, the camerawork is beautiful (not to mention very disturbing - after all, we see through Mark's eyes as he kills these women...just to make the perfect documentary of his tortured life). Such a psychological delight.
I'm probably the first guy on campus to have actually watched this film. Including teachers. Correct me if I'm wrong.
