Review of Peeping Tom (1960) by Daren F — 17 Jan 2009
It is fascinating how in one year two of the most disturbing and groundbreaking thriller/horror/creepy films can be released, Psycho and Peeping Tom, the latter being the much more successful of the two.
Peeping Tom however is an excellent film, filled with amazing use of color and camera work that takes the audience into the world of voyeurism. The script is weak at parts and the acting does not always stand up to the intense camera but neither problem is too bothersome and with two scenes of such overpowering tension and fear it is really easy to see past them.
Powell crafted a weird, creepy, and fascinating work with Peeping Tom, while certainly not the masterpiece some like to call it nor the "British Psycho" as the cover says, but definitely a film that should not be missed.
