Review of Pee-wee's Big Holiday (2016) by John M — 26 Mar 2016
Pee-wee's Big Holiday, is a story about a 63-year-old man (Paul Rubens) playing a boy who is struggling to become a man and at face value, I guess it all seems pretty innocent because...well it's a Comedy, right? Yet, when the man-child, suffering from Peter Pan syndrome goes on a road trip across country to attend actor Joe Manganiello's B-Day Party in New York City, one has to ask what is Pee-wee Herman's motivation? He clearly is frustrated that he has remained stagnant in his hometown of Fairville while all of his friends are growing up around him and moving on to better things. His desire to leave town is pretty clear but the real driving force behind his eagerness to take a holiday may.
Be his man-crush on Joe Manganiello, which I personally find a bit uncomfortable. Their man-boy love is kind of creepy, but this is the comic fictional character Pee-wee Herman who has been confusing audiences for decades. The film isn't quite as entertaining as Tim.
Burton's Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, but it does have a familiar flavor, with its bright colors, mousetrap like contraptions, a menagerie of misfits and laughable awkward moments. It's without a doubt a ridiculous testament to adults pressuring their children to grow up too fast. Although, I'm pretty sure that a man-child isn't the desired result of.
Good child-rearing. If you're a huge Pee-Wee fan, which I am not, you'll probably like this movie but it's definitely not something that I would have paid to see in a movie theater.
