Review of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) by Adam E — 12 Apr 2009
Tim Burton's first feature sees the wacky oddball manchild Pee-Wee Herman trying deperately to track down his red bicycle accross America. On the way meeting a multitude of weirdos and unlikely adventures.
Burton gets Pee-Wee's world perfectly right and with the weirdness and the irony already firmly in place he is left to play around with the visual style of the film, which he does brilliantly. Danny Elfman offers a fine score as ever and the whole thing is great fun and truly refreshing.
A wonderfully goofy debut from cinema's greatest wizard.
