Review of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) by Mellissa L — 29 Dec 2009
One of the great American road movies and it's probably still Tim Burton's best film. It's sort of like Jerry Lewis meets Ed Wood with a nod to Ray Harryhausen via the dinosaur that eats Pee-wee's bike in a dream.
It lacks the existential pain of Lewis's films (it is much more charming and sweet) since it doesn't wish to alienate its audience as much it wants them to gorge on its glorious escapism.
