Review of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) by Mike H — 03 Jan 2011
Tim Burton is the surprise as choice of director for this picture. He handles the material fine, though, and manages to lightly sculpt some of his signature stylings into the background. What's weirder than the choice of director is the fact that Netflix predicted I would give this movie 4.5 stars; 99.9% of the time they are within a quarter of a star. I want to see the two random selections they "based" that assessment on (perhaps: "Based on your interest in 'Eraserhead' and 'Once Upon a Time In the West,' we predict that you'll love 'Pee-wee's Big Adventure'").
Anyhow, a decently amusing children's movie that holds up because of the production more so than the material.
