Review of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) by Stephen O — 01 Mar 2012
I finally came full circle the other day. I watched this movie when I was only a wee mite. Now I've shown it to my niece (who also loves it.) What can I say about Pee Wee, the direction was pretty good.
Utilizing all shots to good comic effect. The dream sequences are truly well made. The lighting in the film does well to enhance the mood from scene to scene. As for acting, ha...the acting was wonderful.
Everyone from Pee Wee to Francis played wonderfully, I still laugh at the Large Marge story. The writing team of Reuben & Hartman was great. All the jokes are funny, they are enjoyable for young and old.
This definitely a film for all families. The only people whom I think wouldn't enjoy this film are those that take themselves seriously. The humor is simple and childish, but that's where it's charm lies.
The films ability to take us on this adventure were we actually see Pee Wee growing up, if only a little bit. It's his love for his bike that shows us that if you truly love something don't be afraid to pursue it.
As I watched this with my niece and we laughed together I realized that film is ageless. I was never so happy as when we shared these moments together.
