Review of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) by Adam R — 06 May 2014
Sure, it may have just been a chance for Paul Reubens to bring his beloved kiddie TV character Pee-wee Herman to the big screen, but it was also an opportunity for Reubens, director Tim Burton, and co-screenwriters Michael Varhol and "SNL" and "The Simpsons" veteran Phil Hartman to really get inside what makes a movie tick.
On the surface, "Big Adventure" is just a madcap road trip about a man-child (Reubens) attempting to retrieve his stolen bike. However, underneath the movie is a satire of disparate movie genres like film noir and horror. A game cast certainly makes the proceedings enjoyable as well.
