Review of Pearl Jam Twenty (2011) by Supi G — 19 Sep 2011
What can I say? This will be anything but a biased opinion...not! One night only in Melbourne - Pearl Jam 20. How can a fan not go? Cameron Crowe takes us to the start of it all twenty years ago when Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain and a security guard who liked to surf, called Eddie Vedder, were almost unknowns.
This incredible journey of demo tapes, gigs at clubs, feuds, topped with success takes you in its grasp and you don't want it to end. I learnt things I didn't know about this band I love, things that they didn't dream of and things they didn't want, which only made their journey together better, and their solidarity as strong as ever.
I liked that it wasn't just about Eddie Vedder, but about the band members as a whole and their relationships within the band. Eddie, as godlike as his charm is, may be the front man of the band, but he's nothing without the band that gave him a chance - Mother Love Bone, which is what they were called, Eddieless.
A few tears fell at the end as respect went out to a band that gives their fans what they want and have never forgotten that it really is about the music.
