Review of Pearl Jam Twenty (2011) by Anthony S — 19 Sep 2011
Starts off great but like most stuff Pearl Jam related it quickly becomes very much about Eddie Vedder. There seems to be a bit of an effort in the last third to talk a little more about the other members, but it's still pretty Ed heavy. Eddie even talks about Andy Wood and says that he would have enjoyed venues they were playing...this is a dead man that Ed never met. If anyone should be speaking for Wood it should be Stone or Jeff or Chris Cornell, who actually knew the man quite well.
Still, it's entertaining and has some great moments, one of the best being Stone's hunt through his house for Pearl Jam stuff - funny stuff.
And of course there's the music, both recorded and live performances (including two that I was at!) that mostly fit perfectly with the current subject matter. You never get a song start to finish with nothing else, but Cameron Crowe does a great job mixing in clips and interviews and just making it work.
What it all comes down to, though, is if you're a PJ fan. If you are you'll probably love this. If not, well, maybe not so much.
