Review of Pearl Jam Twenty (2011) by Raul V — 08 Nov 2011
Absolutely the best band documentary I have ever seen! Writer-director Cameron Crowe ("Singles" & "Almost Famous") sifts through possibly thousands of hours of rare & intimate footage in order to comprise a truly definitive, unflinching, & very complex narrative of perhaps one of the most successful & influential bands of the last 20 years.
..Pearl Jam. Magnificent concert footage...from the early years to damn near now. Honest & enlightening interviews...not just with the band members. It has a flow that is unique & very hard to describe.
..but definitely delivers one hell of an impact! Perhaps even the most die-hard fans out there will learn something new by watching this. I know I did. Great footage! Great interviews! Great music! One hell of an editing job.
..by far! Even if you are not a Pearl Jam fan, I still suggest watching it. If for some reason you simply hate the band, then skip it. Fans...buy this shit whenever it hits DVD or Blu-ray. It might be a long-shot, but I think this one has a chance at getting nominated for BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE come Oscar time.
