Review of Pearl Harbor (2001) by Luke S — 13 Dec 2011

Terrible acting in Michael Bay movies isn't really something new or uncommon. In fact these days it's almost a guarantee. Normally he gets away with this by diverting your attention away to the massive action sequences and giant robots, creating what usually ends up making for a pretty good popcorn movie.

Sadly in Pearl Harbors case this is not so. With barley any action for the first 90minutes of film all you can do is focus on the almost unbearable acting. It's Ben Affleck at his worse, Alec Baldwin making a dick of himself, and Tom Sizemore playing..... well, Tom Sizemore playing Tom Sizemore.

Once the action does pick up it's in its Michael Bay way pretty damn awesome. You could be forgiven for letting go of all the historical innacuracies, forced emotion, and the total disreguard for any form of continuity.

In the end it gets points for the Stunts and Special Effects. And background performances by Cuba Gooding, Jr., Jon Voight and surprisingly Jennifer Garner (she had her moments) also gave this film a little something extra.
