Review of Peaceful Warrior (2006) by Nathan M — 24 Sep 2011
This is based on Dan Millman's best-selling novel, Way of the Peaceful Warrior and it is based on real experiences of the author himself. Happened to be a popular inspirational best seller back in the 1980's and 90's.
What a way to kill a wonderful book by making a movie out of this. The combination of sports and spirituality seemed a tad heavy handed that will undoubtedly leave some viewers baffled. It felt far too preachy and the mystical components were overdone.
I felt the the two-hour running time is just excessive. The performance from Scott Mechlowicz is the only reason to seek out Peaceful Warrior. He plays Dan Millman, a champion gymnast who specializes on the rings with sky high aspirations to compete in the Olympics.
In a nutshell, it is a bad movie built around the elements of truth.
