Review of Paycheck (2003) by Richard R — 22 Jun 2009
A twisting conspiracy thriller, with John Woo at the helm, starring the popular American actor Ben Affleck as a man who carries out such high-profile work for large companies that his memory is erased by said company once his work is done.
Based on a futuristic short story by Philip K. Dick, pioneering writer of such human mechanical nightmares, our hero comes across one company willing to pay him an eight-figure sum for his work. Initially suspicious, Affleckâ??s engineer is unable to see past the dollar signs.
When he comes to though, he finds that his life has been turned upside down, is arrested, and is forced to race against time in order to clear his name. In typical John Woo fashion, the action and chase sequences are the key to enjoying Paycheck.
Not my favourite Woo movie by some distance but still a worthy addition to his burgeoning collection of heart-racing thrillers.
