Review of Payback (1999) by Paul C — 06 Apr 2008
This movie's a blast. A cool, gritty, violent throwback to the relentless crime epics of the late 60's/70's. Amazing jobs by the supporting cast and by Mel, who always rules. One thing that kinda bothered me about it was the voiceover, which was added after the movie was taken away from Brian Helgeland, it reminded me too much of the voiceover Mel does in Maverick.
Anyway, a great script and directing job from Helgeland, who had only done one other thing before this (wrote the script for Conspiracy Theory).
