Review of Pauly Shore Is Dead (2003) by László P — 11 Feb 2010
You know a movie is bad when Carrot Top gets the best joke. There is nothing really funny about this movie. It's a spoof of celebrity and Hollywood but the clever idea of how people are romanticized and given more appreciation in death than in life is given a back seat to potty humor, Pauly Shore doing the same schtick that people grew tired of in the 90's and jokes that aren't funny. Many famous celebrities like Sean Penn, Ben Stiller, Britney Spears and Vince Vaughan pop up in cameos which they don't seem to want to be in. Vaughan especially seems to be screaming his lines with a nervousness as if someone was about to shoot him. Only Kurt Loder gets a laugh when after reporting on the fake death of Pauly Shore and the outpour of emotion from celebrities, he criticizes all the celebs who are romanticizing him.
As for the Carrot Top joke, here is it. Shore gets evicted from his home only to have Carrot Top be the buyer. There you go, Pauly Shore being upstaged by Carrot Top. I just saved you 83 minutes of your life to use otherwise.
