Review of Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (2015) by Bobby M — 27 Aug 2015
Here's my theory; Whenever any kind of community arises amongst people, certain patterns arise too. Cultures form, certain unwritten rules emerge and the community unites over common likes, but also, more indelibly over common enemies. Nothing unites people more than finding a scapegoat that you can all agree to hate, and the natural peer pressure within groups will always perpetuate this pattern. Well, I suspect the community of critics are the same, and unfortunately any movie associated with Adam Sandler or M.Night Shyamalan is automatically slated. They're the scapegoats in this community, and unfairly so in my opinion. I love these Happy Madison types of movies. Yes they're a bit crap, but they're supposed to be. They're fun. They're like B-Movies and they always have a great spirit and message to them; that we shouldn't take life so seriously and that it's ok to be different.
And while I'm on the topic, animated movies, foreign movies and documentaries are always rated excessively high. These seem to be the movies that it's "cool" for critics to like. Moral of the story, take ratings with a pinch of salt. Make up your own mind.
