Review of Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (2015) by Daimyo L — 23 Apr 2015
A movie overflowing with movie tropes so common that not a single moment is unpredictable. The actors clearly do not want to be there. The gags are hilariously bad...wait. What if it was bad on purpose? What if Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is just a social commentary on America's obsession with sequels and remakes? I mean, the film is so similar to the first one yet simultaneously builds off of it that this film is practically a sequel AND a remake. It gets really dark, especially in the beginning, but the dramatic moments are played off with sight gags. Is The Blart commentating on how serious filmmakers take their sequels only to be watered down by major studios? Is the film self-aware? Woah.
Either way, for whatever reason the camera shots are really, really impressive.
