Review of Paul (2011) by Always S — 25 Sep 2012
The reason Paul made me laugh practically evey living minute was because as a massive sci-fi fanboy, I understood all the references from the movie and I laughed so hard because of the ingenius tone that it created. I got everything from ET, Alien, Total Recall, Close Encounters and even the more minor ones like The Blues Brothers and Jaws. This is truly the funniest way to honor sci fi fans and fans of general comedy.
It isn't distincly of a Simon Pegg and Nick Frost style, but it's still hilarious the way their characters are a fish out of water and Seth Rogen is always funny, but he was suprisingly hilarious in a mere voice role and that's just the icing on the cake. But the best part is the fact that they gave a part to Sigourney Weaver, The Sci-Fi queen and her character was awesome, a lot like a more evil Ellen Ripley which was actually more that I could have asked for. It's special effects and occasional action are cool as well.
SPOILER ALERT! The best part in the film is when Blyth Danner delivers the famous line from Aliens before punching Sigourney Weaver which made me laugh so hard I was in tears. Paul is a piece of Comedy gold, and even though it's a satire of science fiction, it's a great Sci-Fi film as well.
