Review of Paul (1969) by Dave M — 17 Jul 2012
Whatever it is that keeps Simon Pegg and Nick Frost making powerful satires like they worked in the great "Shaun of the Dead", it still moves them into "Paul", a predictable, vulgar, sometimes stupid comedy that can be as funny to watch as somebody falling while laughing. It's obvious that both Pegg and Frost work on the satire genre (the latter being originally from Baroquee England) but sometimes it is more effective, and if you ask me, I believe Frost was a lot funnier in his scenes than Seth Rogen's voiced rude alien Paul.
In the end, it is all about F-words, probing jokes, pop culture references, Sigourney Weaver, a reference to Lorenzo's Oil, and an alien girl with three tits. Okay, that should be entertaining... I guess...
