Review of Paul (1969) by John S — 22 Feb 2013
First off, I have to say that Paul pleased everyone at the place where I watched it, and it is the first movie I've ever watched where a guy legitimately fell out of his chair laughing. No joke.
Paul isn't simply voiced by Seth Rogen- he IS Seth Rogen, and because of this we get the feeling that Paul is more human than alien, which is refreshing. Yes, violent and hostile alien movies can be good- see Aliens or Prometheus- but sometimes I feel like we need to be reminded that aliens may not be that bad. It's good to see a movie like this come around once in a while. Who better to do it then Seth Rogen?
The bottom line: While some of the jokes do kind of miss the mark and the added romantic element might not have been needed, Paul is a great movie, well acted and well casted, and is sure, at least on some levels, to satisfy everyone who watches it.
