Review of Paul (1969) by Tehe T — 01 Apr 2014
From director Greg Metolla, and starring the dynamic duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, this likable comedy is a fusion of humors. Meshing the laid-back American comedic style with the sophisticated British one produces some laughs and some awkwardness, but seems to also limit the writers rather than liberate them.
Veteran comedian Seth Rogen voices the titular character to excellent and believable effect bringing equal parts 'dude' and intellectual to the role. Jason Bateman plays a seasoned spook, younger SNL stars Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader lend their talents to the supporting cast.
Sigourney Weaver drives the plot as "the big guy," and Jeffery Tambor cameos as a successful sci-fi author. When all's said and done, this is a film worth watching, pleasant and funny, but doesn't really break new ground.
Don't turn it down, but don't expect a revolutionary comedy.
