Review of Patton (1970) by Michael S — 08 Jan 2012
I saw the movie when it came out in 1970 and remember leaving the theatre thinking that we just experienced one of the greatest films ever made, and that was correct. Even after all these years, the movie still feels as fresh and compelling as it did then.
Probably the best acting by a male of any performance, Scott was quoted as saying that he worried that he didn't quite capture the essence of Patton- I think he did better than that, if Patton was to be presented and thought of as an epic hero, Scott certainly achieved that end.
Just a remarkable film, and rated as the number one movie of all time by more than a few critics- and deservedly so.
