Review of Patton (1970) by Matt C — 01 Aug 2010
A truly wonderful biopic in which George C. Scott gives a career-defining type of performance. It's moving and arresting. Scott's portrayal of General George Patton paints the picture of a man that has the capability to show compassion and artistic grace, but also a man who's innermost demons include a consuming lust for power and war.
He has the historian, poet, and infectiously respectable side to him, and then he has the ugly, son-of-a-bitch, war-hungry, almost primitive side to him. And there is no way in hell we can dissect this kind of emotion from this colorful true-soldier-at-heart man without the iconic performance by Scott.
It's well-written, directed, and acted, and includes a few memorable parts, especially the extreme effective hook of an opener. Definitely make the time to watch this one.
