Review of Patriots Day (2016) by Drew M — 16 Jan 2017
4 Stars. The score and heart are at a 5 but there's so many quips that it seriously dragged the film down that much for me. Some of it was perfectly placed and worked well but it felt ill timed a lot of the time.
I understand Boston people give no fucks when it comes to attitude but come on lol. I thought the film was incredibly progressive in the fact that they played a very even line of politics in the film.
It was about Bostonian's and Americans and not right and left and any of that crap. It talked about everyone as individuals and showed all the different kind of people that make the makeup of this (can be) beautiful country.
Also, the tension the film builds is incredibly impressive. That score though...Mixing arthouse and mainstream is a slippery slope but this was a fantastic risk that paid off like hell. I seriously can't believe of all the things I forgot about this investigation, too.
