Review of Patriot Games (1992) by Jason J — 26 May 2011
This is no milestone movie, but it's very enjoyable. There's a fair amount of action - featuring car chases, shootouts and various fistfights. Harrison Ford is great in the role of Jack Ryan, he manages to portray him as a sensitive family man who can step up to the plate when things get ugly, and Anne Archer is solid enough as the wife and mother caught up in the web of nastiness unfolding.
The villains are led by the brooding Sean Bean who is a little under written, whilst Richard Harris is sadly underused, but the action set pieces make their mark. The rest of the movie is made up with good support turns from the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Thora Birch and James Earl Jones.
It is formulaic to a degree, but that's OK.
