Phillip Noyce can do arthouse, but he's just as adept at staging suspense and action. One good example is his adaptation of Tom Clancy's Patriot Games starring Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan. The high-tech babble Clancy is known for is dramatically watered down for action thrills, and we're all the better for it.
