Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Leah Z — 02 Aug 2008
I was taking a course at SFSU called History of Warfare. The prof said that the battle scenes in Paths of Glory were supposed to be as close to WWI trench warfare as you could get. I rented it and was blown away. I immediately rewound (!) the tape (!) and watched it again. (I own it on DVD now.).
I'm not a big Kirk Douglas fan, but his performance in this film is pitch-perfect. All the acting is superb. Strongly recommend this skillfully filmed anti-war statement.
