Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Max S — 04 Apr 2009
One of the best war movies I have ever seen. I see so many things that people have copied in the war films of today that I couldn't even count it. And they did it for good reason, Kubrick films war as best you can.
His battle sequence was some of the best cinematography ever put on film. But the real greatness is in his use of lighting. It is perfect in every scene. As usual with Kubrick, he doesn't put an emotion to the story and in this film it is the right way to handle it.
And as usual you still feel for the characters, without an once of sentimentality from Kubrick, I don't know any filmmaker who could do it better. The acting was superb never going over the top even though there were parts in very will could have.
An amazing film about the injustices of war, you should see it.
