Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Josh Z — 20 Sep 2009
One of Kubrick's earlier films it. Set in France in WW1 and focusing on the french army (not one german is seen in until the end when a German girl sings a song and the troops join in). Its a war film (well an anti war film) with one failed battle and the after effects on the some of the people in it.
It focus's more on the political side of war and the court Marshall of 3 men sentenced to cowardliness in the face of the enemy. Its pretty heavy stuff but it moves along briskly and has Kubrik's visual flair to help you along the way.
