Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Bradley W — 12 Jun 2012
Paths of Glory isn't a war film, its a message to everyone about how the war is not all run by kind a good soldiers, but by corrupt and cruel leaders. Stanley Kubrick is one of the greatest geniuses ever in cinema, and this film really defines him as a director and show the power and messages behind his films.
I watched this and saw the lies people told to make sure they got their way, and it just made me sick. This film is short, but in the time it runs we are so busy being shown how war is one big suicide mission, thay we really don't need great characters to keep it flowing.
Kirk Douglas leads a great cast, and Douglas himself brilliantly plays a heroic man who does everything he can to protect his men, and Douglas plays him perfectly. So overall, Kubrick brilliantly directs this anti-war film and showed me that war is one big suicide mission from which we cannot escape.
