Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Gavin S — 23 Aug 2012
Kubrick's controversial (read independent) anti-war film. Based on a novel by Humphrey Cobb, tells of the French Generals who think nothing for their men, by sending them on a suicide mission and then court martial 3 random survivors.
Kirk Douglas is his strong, steadfast best as their French colonel who does his duty even though it's impossible, and then defends the men at their court martial. A scathing indictment of war and the callous nature of command.
Fantastic.
