Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Jerem M — 12 Aug 2013
Not Kubrick's best, but maybe his first great film. Certainly as poignant as Full Metal Jacket, and on some level even more so. The third act alone is worth sitting through some of the slower parts of the first two.
The final scene in which disillusioned soldiers watch a captured German girl singing to them is the highlight. (Interesting note: the actress went on to marry Kubrick and they were together until his death.
