Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Adrian B — 10 Sep 2010
An utterly bone-chilling film, which will bring tears to your eyes by the end. It's the third film I have seen from 1957 that involved a courtroom and trial, the others being Witness for the Prosecution and Sweet Smell of Success.
There is an intense war scene lead by Kirk Douglas, over bits through gun fire and exploding bombshells are overly impressive. Douglas' performance once again is superb, with his bitter, cynical impression geard towards his successors.
A terrific film of World War I, not so much with action, although it is very good, but also the emotional intensity. Probably the best film I will see in association with World War I.
