Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Maxwell S — 30 Mar 2012
I really love early Kubrick films. I mean, his others are nothing short of astonishing, but the early stuff is strange in a whole other way. It manages to seem like it's told in an old fashion way, but it really isn't.
It feels very personal, as if it truly affects you in real life. I highly recommend "Paths of Glory" and "The Killing". This has quite a bit more drama than The Killing. It also changes what you think it's about 30 minutes in.
But, that is a good thing I suppose. One of my all time favorite films, 2nd favorite of Kubrick's next to "The Killing".
