Review of Pather Panchali (1955) by Mehnaz A — 04 Jan 2010
A good example of laying a story too long and sacrificing what could have been a good film by doing so. Although most of the best and most powerful scenes come in the last quarter of the film - sadly, by this point, we no longer CARE enough to appreciate them at their full potential.
The journey has just been too long. In short (hah!) the film is just too bloody long. The entire first hour could have been chopped in half, and thereby could have saved this nice Indian neorealist classic.
