Review of Pather Panchali (1955) by Andrey B — 11 Oct 2017
Poverty is the same everywhere... This film forever changed my perception of Indian cinema, its people and culture. It's a great film classic that carries a universal message in itself. It's indeed hard to believe that this was the first movie for the director and cinematographer, so mature and thought-provoking it is, so rich and telling its pictorial form.
The actors seem not act but live their characters, especially the actress who played the mother. As for the story it's simple, poignant and universally recognizable as the problems depicted are familiar to every country and culture, in every age.
