Review of Patch Adams (1998) by Sapphire G — 19 Jan 2013
Wow. Saccharine alert. Shamefully manipulative. Pompous, shallow, paper thin/cartoonish characters. Endlessly formulaic. Even the musical score is unbelievable. Every attempt to exploit emotions is so in-your-face obvious that it becomes insulting.
I like Robin Williams... sometimes. He's got an interesting style, he can be either over-the-top but lovable, or over-the-top and incredibly obnoxious. Here he was insufferable. Allowing this guy to indulge in playing any kind of clown, for any amount of time, should be a crime! Madness! Not even the real Patch Adams liked "Patch Adams.
