Review of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) by Tony P — 02 Feb 2009
A doozie of a western. It's superior to Peckinpah's more notorious Wild Bunch, but maintains his nack for sex, violence, and inventive editing. The complexity of the characters are subtlely expressed through the sauntering pace of the filmmaking as we watch them move and behave.
The events are vague and complex, but the performances say all that need be said. Their strife and wrecklessness are accentuated with the magnificent score by Bob Dylan, whose supporting role is really just a cherry on top.
