Review of Pat and Mike (1952) by Joel A — 09 Aug 2013
Tense the glutinous muscle.
Pat is an amazing female athlete that is good at every sport she tries. Mike is a shady sports promoter that makes a living by fixing sporting events. Mike and Pat meet and an immediate mutual attraction takes place. Mike tries to right his wrongs and keep his shady behaviors from becoming evident to Pat. Is there any chance for Mike and Pat to have a future or will Mike's profession doom them?
"How would you like to come in second?".
"I wouldn't.".
George Cukor, director of My Fair Lady, Adam's Rib, A Star is Born, The Philadelphia Story, Wild is the Wind, Rich and Famous, Gaslight, and Keeper of the Flame, delivers Pat and Mike. The storyline for this picture is very entertaining and fun to watch unfold. The characters are very dynamic and the dialogue is excellent. The cast delivers wonderful performances and includes Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Aldo Ray, and Sammy White.
"Together we can lick them all.".
I am a huge Spencer Tracy fan and DVR'd this picture off Turner Classic Movies (TCM) a couple months ago. I have enjoyed several films he worked with Katherine Hepburn in and found this another great film with these two stars. Overall, this isn't either of their best picture but it is definitely worth a viewing.
"You are one beautiful thing to watch.".
Grade: B.
