Stupid? Maybe a little. Also, acting apparently isn't a craft that has thrived in the interstellar future: the most effective parts seem to arrive only when the actors aren't actually on screen.

Although "Passengers" has its problems and doesn't quite deliver on the social and ethical issues it attempts to drive, the film has spectacular visual effects and is a real thrill ride.
