Review of Passengers (2016) by Grant F — 16 Apr 2017
Arghhh what a wasted opportunity this movie was. It opened up so many moral dilemmas and then let them all go to waste. It even set the premise for a much better ending with the "midwife" passenger.
Our heroin needed to show far more anger when realising the evil act bestowed upon her. Her character had the courage to give up her life on earth to pursue her writing dream. When faced with the betrayal of this dream by the most selfish of acts we are meant to believe she gets over it so quickly for what was the most unconvincing of romances??? Could the "captain" not have been a competing love interest who was killed off by Pratt? Then the part that frustrated me the most, the script forgot to kill off Chris Pratt (even better if she had the chance to save him but didn't out of spite).
Then we can complete the cycle of the moral dilemma it so nicely set up, with a "pregnant" Jennifer Lawrence needing to decide whether she would wake the midwife in order to save her baby.
