Review of Passengers (2016) by Bradley J — 08 Feb 2017
I would love to see the plot of Passengers played out with actors like Abigail Breslin and Ian McKellen or someone of the sort. Not saying Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt aren't good, but the film's plot hinges on a romance with two pretty people who happen to be the only two awake.
In reality, it wouldn't be that simple. Of course this is Hollywood, and despite some strange Stockholm-Syndrome-y vibes from the first half of Passengers, the film is nowhere near as poor as critics have established it to be.
It is intriguing sci-fi. Sometimes cheesy, sometimes clunky, but entertaining throughout. Its ending is abrupt and the finale is overwhelming and nonsensical, but in the end Passengers is enjoyable and enlivened by good performances.
Rent it. Rating: 59.
