Review of Passenger 57 (1992) by Mark S — 06 Aug 2007
It is the nature of man to confuse genius with insanity.
John Cutter is an airplane security training officer that has recently been assigned to a plane in Los Angeles that is scheduled to fly across the country. The FBI decides to include one of America's Most Wanted on the flight that happens to be a bomb expert. A group of the fugitive's colleagues free him and take the plane hostage. It will be up to John to bring the plane down and save as many lives as possible.
"Put yourself in my position, what would you do?".
"Kill myself.".
Kevin Hooks, director of Black Dog, Fled, Strictly Business, Murder without Motive, Heat Wave, and numerous TV episodes, delivers Passenger 57. The storyline for this picture is fairly solid for the genre and reminded me of the first Die Hard picture. The acting was better than anticipated and the cast includes Wesley Snipes, Tom Sizemore, Elizabeth Hurley, Bruce Payne, and Ernie Lively.
"Who's in charge?".
"I am.".
"Once again, who's in charge?".
"You are.".
"Excellent.".
Passenger 57 is a movie we caught while flicking through the channels last night. I saw this long ago and remembered thinking it was just okay. Watching it again I was surprised at the quality of the action sequences and with Payne as the villain. I thought this was a fairly thorough action gem that is a must see for action genre fans.
"This is going to be a live flight.".
Grade: B.
