Review of Passenger 57 (1992) by Sterling W — 12 Jan 2011
Quite possibly one of the best Die-Hard clones of the 1990's, Passenger 57 succeeds because of the top-notch performance of Wesley Snipes. As center of the film, he displays a physical grace while simultaneously being able to kick the ass of anyone who gets in his way.
The film has a very-strong black empowerment theme, Mostly realized in a sequence where Snipes beats up two racist, redneck police officers, roundhouse kicks a third, and steals a police motorcycle and takes off.
The scene is very reminiscent of Jim Kelly in Enter the Dragon. Bruce Payne is entertaining as the intelligent but psychopathic villain, and Kevin Hooks provides taut direction while Stanley Clarke's cool gives the film a cool, hip feel.
By far my favorite movie of all-time. A must-see if you enjoy action films and if you want to see the movie the launched Wesley Snipes' career as an action hero.
